Out of desperation, a Syrian refugee Wednesday in Zaandam tried stabbing himself on fire.
That was prevented at the last minute by fellow residents of the tent camp in the Mayor in 't Veld Park.
The refugee from Aleppo shouted among other things that he wanted to see his children, which reports the Noordhollands Dagblad. They're in Turkey and may not in transit to their father.
Hunger strike
The man makes the newspaper is part of a group that already five months in the tent camp in Zaandam. The COA would have promised them that the procedure would last for asylum three months, but the situation seems hopeless.
Some refugees have now indicated that the next few days on hunger strike. They want a residence permit and progress in the process.
