More than 7300 people last year received a benefit abroad, after they had returned to their country of origin.
These returnees have received a total of 33.9 million euros in benefits. That amount was 22.2 million euros in 2010, according to figures NU.nl has requested from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB).
The SVB pays a monthly fee to people who have returned permanently to their country of origin from the Netherlands.
This amount is intended to provide for their livelihood and is only paid if the recipient is likely to fall below the local minimum. The benefit is a set of conditions attached.
