The HAGUE-it succeeds but not for outstanding traffic fines from foreign diplomats. This is evident from data of ministers Van der Steur (security and justice) and Kaka (Foreign Affairs).
The past years charged diplomats who violate the law roughly half of the fines imposed. Last January was of the 5000 euros in fines only 250 euro actually paid.
This seems to be of the former foreign minister Timmermans announced tough approach for asodiplomaten little. International conventions forbid the imposition of sanctions and coercion to diplomats. The Cabinet, however, the embassies of the countries concerned firmly promised to appeal on the behavior of their employees. The traffic hufters under them would lose their card.
"It is painful to see that the Government wants to take away the revenue at civilians by the fines increase," says Mp Sjoerdsma (D66). But foreign diplomats do not pay. We unfortunately still waiting on an approach of the Cabinet. "
