According to a report from the University of Twente in which the crisis has been investigated in the first weeks of July 17th. The report was commissioned by the Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) of the Ministry of Security and Justice.

Suspiciously

Survivors who went to the airport on July 17, the relief experienced by employees at Schiphol and Malaysia Airlines as positive. But the help of the central government were the families in the first days after the disaster unprofessional and annoying. They could present very difficult to make contact with the relevant authorities in the first hours after the disaster and were regularly treated unprofessionally or suspicious. In addition, survivors experienced a lack of coordination at the initial reception. So sometimes they were not called back while this was agreed.

Missive

Also, about one-third of the families never received a formal notice that their loved ones aboard Flight MH17.

From the Day of National Mourning, on July 23, changed this assessment. The ceremonies at arrival of the remains and the national memorial to the bereaved correctly appreciated enormously. The great personal commitment of ministers, members of the Royal Family and mayors has been a great help to many survivors.

Expeditious

The researchers from the University of Twente are positive about the way the government has handled the crisis, with the exception of the beginning. "The first crisis response around flight MH17 went unnecessarily burdensome and complex, as the national crisis organization was insufficiently focused on cooperation with and between relevant organizations and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence," the researchers write.Other needed work places were taken up expeditiously as crisis communications, international diplomacy and the organization of the national day of mourning.

All in all, the conclusion that the government, despite the complex conditions and the difficult early days has gradually been able to manage the crisis adequately.
