JOHANNESBURG - A tip from the American secret service CIA made sure Nelson Mandela in 1962 was arrested by the South African regime and ended up in jail for 27 years.
That the former US consul in Durban, South Africa and CIA collaborator Donald Rickard told director John Irvin.

Mandela was convicted in 1964 for planning a guerrilla war with the intent to overthrow the apartheid system. He was released in 1990. From 1994 to 1998 he was president. He died in 2013 at the age of 95.
