Winschoten wanted tomb holds honorary citizen stitcher

Winschoten become worried because the municipality wanted to eliminate the grave of Freeman Dirk stitcher.

Naamloos2-442.pngA man accidentally discovered when he walked across the cemetery there were plans to remove the tomb of the deceased VVD politician.

Sticker was one of the most famous people in Winschoten of the last century. He was among other senator, the first party leader of the VVD, Foreign Minister, Ambassador in London and Secretary-General of NATO. He was appointed in 1964 an honorary citizen of Winschoten.

The prominent VVD, then known as DU stitcher, died in 1979 and was buried in his hometown.

Startled

For Winschoter Cor Georg came to the notice of the planned cull as a surprise, he told RTV Noord . "I saw a sticker on the grave, with the message that the grave would be cleared. I'm shocked."

Georg went redress in the town, but was not much wiser it. "They told me that they knew who was there, but they could not do anything. They said everybody just has to pay, even though the king there."

He went to the local leader of the VVD and got more support there. Eventually the municipality Oldambt went where Winschoten covered, tack. For now, the grave is not cleared.
